As part of enhanced safety measures for the return to in-person learning after the Winter Break, the Ministry of Education has directed school boards to verify the daily screening of all students, staff and essential visitors, for the first two weeks of school in January 2022 (January 3 to 14).
While we have always had the expectation that students self-screen before coming to school, we have developed additional measures to support the verification process.
Screening Verification for Elementary Students
- Every day, we are asking families to complete the Ontario COVID-19 School Screener for each elementary student in the household. For those without access to the website, the PDF version is available here. This PDF version is available in 19 different languages.
- If the screening tool indicates that the child may go to school, the parent/guardian will initial next to the appropriate date on the WRDSB Student Screening Confirmation Form and give the form to their child to bring to school.
- School staff will verify that the form has been initialed.
Schools will develop protocols to respond to students that have not completed the verification.
Before and After School Programs
Staff will verbally confirm with parents upon arrival in the Before and After School program that they have completed the Ontario COVID-19 School Screener for themselves and their child. Parents and caregivers are permitted to enter the school to drop off or pick up their child in Before and After School programs.
Daily screening is a layer of protection that further reduces that risk. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school.
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
