We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jamila Maliha as a new Superintendent of Student Achievement and Well-Being, effective August 1, 2025.
Jamila brings over 26 years of experience in public education, marked by a strong commitment to student achievement, equity, and inclusive leadership. Her career has spanned diverse roles—from classroom teacher and Science Department Head to Vice-Principal, Principal, and most recently, Superintendent of Education in two school boards. Her leadership portfolios have included Kindergarten to Grade 12 Teaching and Learning, Safe, Caring and Restorative Schools, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Mental Health, Innovation and Information Technology, as well as Research.
Before joining WRDSB, Jamila served with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and the Durham District School Board, where she led system-wide initiatives focused on student well-being, creating spaces of belonging, and system change. She also mentors aspiring education leaders through the Supervisory Officers’ Qualification Program (SOQP) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Public Supervisory Officers’ Association (OPSOA).
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Jamila Maliha to her new role serving the students and families of the Waterloo Region District School Board,” said Scott Miller, Director of Education for the WRDSB. “Jamila’s educational knowledge, leadership and mentorship throughout the province will be a great addition to the WRDSB!”
Outside of work, Jamila is a proud mother and passionate supporter of the arts. As a devoted ‘dance and theatre mom,’ she celebrates the role of the arts in nurturing creativity, student voice, and well-being. She also enjoys hiking and spending time in nature, finding inspiration and balance in the outdoors. Jamila is honoured to be joining the WRDSB and looks forward to contributing to its continued commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation.
We look forward to welcoming Jamila to the WRDSB and for the leadership she will provide for staff and students across the WRDSB in support of student achievement and well-being.
