Welcome back to our new and returning Maverick Students & Families,

As a new school year begins, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly appointed Principal of Margaret Avenue. My name is Silvana Hoxha, and it is truly an honour to serve as the instructional leader and lead learner of such a remarkable school! I have been an administrator in a number of different school communities within the Waterloo Region District School Board during the past 8 years, and over the course of the next few months, I look forward to learning more about our wonderful school and community. I’m also proud to introduce to you our new Vice-Principal, Mrs. Siobhan Shonk, who will be my admin partner at Margaret Avenue this year. Mrs. Shonk is a “twinned” Vice-Principal, spending half of her time each week at Doon Public School, supporting the administration and school there. Both Mrs. Shonk and I look forward to meeting and working with each of you as we collaborate together to ensure the academic success and well-being of all of our students.

As you are aware, our school has undergone significant construction throughout the summer months, and we would like to express our gratitude for your ongoing patience and flexibility during this time. Similarly, we are grateful for and so fortunate to have an exemplary and dedicated group of educators, custodians and office staff at Margaret, who have worked tirelessly to ensure a successful September start up. A big thank you goes out to our amazing custodial, secretarial, and teaching staff for all of their hard work in getting the school ready during the construction process. Although, some additional construction will continue into the fall, we are excited and proud to showcase some of our newly renovated spaces at our upcoming Open House on Thursday, September 14, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. You will be able to visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and connect with administration. At Margaret, we believe in the positive impact of supportive staff and involved families. Our staff looks forward to meeting with you and developing close partnerships with you and your children.

Our school offers so much to our learning community – a stunning building, dedicated teachers, supportive staff, educational technology, countless opportunities to get involved in school life, and the ability to learn from new experiences, be courageous in the face of challenges and to gain the resilience to succeed in our ever-changing world. We are eager to share this learning journey with you and your child for a very successful year at Margaret Avenue Senior Public School!
