We would like to take a moment to share with you an unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday after school. One of our students was walking home after football practice and was approached by a stranger in a dark grey 2-door pick up truck. The man waved to the boy and called out to him, saying that he was here to pick him up and drive him home.  Our student refused to engage the man and quickly walked home and reported the incident to his mother, who in turn called the police. This occurred at the corner of St. Ledger and Fairfield St. in Kitchener shortly after 4:30 PM.

The police investigated the situation yesterday and we are working with our school’s Resource Officer to provide additional police presence around our neighborhood.  We have also informed all of our teachers of this event and have spent some time talking to our students today about personal safety.   We would also encourage you to take some time this evening to discuss this with your child and reinforce personal safety strategies with them.

During unfortunate situations such as these, our priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our students while working in partnership with parents, police and our response team at the district school board. Should you have any further questions or concerns, or any further information to share about this incident, please contact Mrs. Giannopoulos.
